Fred R. Bauman and L. Jean Bauman Scholarship Fund
Although they had no children of their own, Fred and Jean Bauman dedicated their lives to serving the young people of Ross and Pike Counties – Fred as a shop teacher at Waverly High School and Jean as the Ross County Home Economics Extension agent. Fred built the home that they lived in for all of their married lives. Jean was known for her interest in cooking and nutrition and also for her prize roses, and Fred almost always had a carpentry project in the works. They cultivated a large vegetable garden and worked together to can and process their harvest. They lived frugally, and although they never earned enormous salaries, by the end of their lives their estate was impressive. This enabled them to leave money to multiple charities and establish this scholarship fund, creating a legacy to benefit the youth they had served all of their lives that will last long past their time on this earth.
Scholarships are awarded annually to graduating seniors and/or previous high school graduates residing in Ross County and Pike County with a 2.5 high school GPA. Funds may be used at any accredited trade or technical school or for a skills program. They may also be used at an accredited college or university if the degree being pursued will lead to a career in a trade field. Examples of qualifying programs would be, but are not limited to, technology, electrical, mechanical, welding, plumbing, beautician, medical assistant, practical nursing, landscaping, truck driving, and heavy equipment operation.
