Scholarships Available for All Ross County Graduates
Clyde and Grace Moss Scholarship Fund
The Clyde and Grace Moss Scholarship Fund was established to leave a lasting legacy of Clyde and Grace Moss. Annually, as funds are available, one (1) scholarship is awarded annually to a qualified senior student graduating from a Ross County high school.
Guidelines for Application
- Nominees must be a graduating senior of a Ross County, Ohio high school.
- Nominees must have a 2.5 grade point average (on a 4.0 grading scale).
- Nominee must complete an application.
- Nominee must complete an educational budget as financial need will be a consideration.
- Nominee must provide a self-expression synopsis (250 words or more) describing his or her educational goals and career plans.
- Application must be accompanied by official high school transcripts from a Ross County high school and ACT or equivalent scores.
- Nominee must provide proof of acceptance by the college, trade school, or technical school of his/her choice.
- Nominee must provide two recommendations from teachers, coaches, advisors or other community leaders.
- Scholarship funds may be used at any accredited college or trade school for tuition and/or books.
- Scholarship payment will be made only to the designated educational institution.
- Any unused funds will be returned to the Fund. Should a student withdraw before completing his/her first year, the remaining funds, in accordance with the policy of the institution, shall be returned to the Fund.
Mary Margaret Black Scholarship Fund
As a lasting memory to Mary Margaret Black a Ross County, Ohio resident concerned about education, an annual scholarship provides funds for college students who have graduated from Ross County High Schools.
Guidelines for Application
- Nominees must have a 2.5 grade point average.
- Nominees may apply from South Central Ohio counties
- Nominees must provide proof of acceptance by the college, trade, or technical school of his/her choice.
- Nominees must be accompanied with official high school transcripts and ACT, or equivalent, scores.
- Scholarship funds are to be used for general expenses: Tuition, room/board, and books.
- Scholarship payment will be made only to the designated educational institution.
- Should a student withdraw before completing his/her first year, the remaining funds, in accordance with the policy of the institution, shall be returned to the fund.
Homebuilders of Ross County Scholarship
Guidelines for Application
- Nominee must be a graduate of any Ross County High School or the Pickaway-Ross Career and Technology Center.
- Nominee must provide a transcript from a Ross County High School or the Pickaway-Ross Career and Technology Center showing not less than a 2.5 Grade Point Average on a 4.0 grading scale.
- Nominee must complete an application.
- Nominee must complete an educational budget, as financial need may be a consideration.
- Nominee must write a self-expression synopsis (200 words or more) describing education goals, career plans, and school and community activities.
- Nominee shall provide two recommendations from teachers, coaches, advisors, or other community leaders.
- Preference will be given, but not limited to eligible nominees whose family member (spouse, parent or guardian, grandparent or other immediate family member) is a full time employee of a building trade’s member company with a minimum of one year continuous employment with that company. Nominee must have a letter from that company verifying continuous employment.
- The scholarship may be renewable. For this to occur, the nominee must have completed 36 quarter credit hours or 30 semester credit hours and have a 2.5 G.P.A. or better. The nominee must re-submit an application and meet all requirements stated herein and heretofore. The scholarship committee however may choose to not renew a scholarship for whatever reason.
- The money may be used at any accredited two or four year college, technical or trade school.
- The money may be used for tuition or books. Checks will be written directly to the college, technical or trade school. Any unused portion will be returned to the fund.
Scholarships Available for Chillicothe High School Graduates
Virginia Riffle Scholarship Fund
The Virginia Riffle Scholarship Fund is for Chillicothe High School Graduates who are attending Ohio University – Chillicothe or Athens. Scholarship are available for traditional and non-traditional students. Scholarships are renewable.
Guidelines for Application
- Nominee shall be a graduate of Chillicothe High School.
- Nominee must be a full-time student at Ohio University – Chillicothe or Athens.
- If a graduate of CHS within the previous two years, nominee must have had not less than a 3.0 high school Grade Point Average (on a 4.0 grading scale).
- Nominees who graduated from CHS prior to the two previous years will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
- Nominee must complete an application.
- Nominee must complete an educational budget and demonstrate financial need.
- Application must be accompanied by official high school transcripts and ACT or equivalent scores.
- If nominee has completed some college, application must be accompanied by university or college transcripts.
- Nominee must write a self-expression synopsis (200 words or more) describing education goals, career plans, and school and community activities.
- Nominee shall provide two (2) recommendations from teachers, coaches, advisors or other community leaders.
- Scholarship funds are to be used only for books and/or tuition.
- Scholarship payment will be made directly to Ohio University. Any unused portion will be returned to the Fund.
McCallum Family Scholarship Fund for Chillicothe High School Graduates
The McCallum Family Scholarship Fund for Chillicothe High School Graduates was established by Scott McCallum in memory of his father John L. McCallum. John was a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and was a Certified Public Accountant by trade. Education was important to John and this scholarship will provide educational funds in his memory.
Guidelines for Application
- Nominee must be a graduate of Chillicothe High School, Chillicothe, Ohio.
- Nominee must have not less than a “B” average (3.0 on a 4.0 grading scale)
- Nominee must fill out an application.
- Nominee must provide a self-expression synopsis (250 words or more) describing themselves, interests, hobbies, and goals. The synopsis should include activities in which the nominee has engaged in during high school years, including organized out-of-school activities (4-H Club, scouting, church organizations, etc.) as well as those connected with school (class officer, music organizations, athletics, publications, etc.).
- Nominee shall provide transcripts from Chillicothe High School.
- Nominee shall provide two recommendations from teachers, coaches, advisors, or other community leaders.
- Scholarship is need-based and in preference is given to students from families of one parent or no parent.
- The money may be used at a four year accredited university or college.
- The money may be used only for tuition. Checks will be written directly to the college or trade school or approved entity. Any unused portion will be returned to the Fund.
- The scholarship is renewable with documentation from the university that a “C” average (2.0 GPA on a 4.0 grading scale) has been maintained.
Chillicothe Bicentennial Scholars Fund
The Chillicothe Bicentennial Scholars Fund was established by the Chillicothe Bicentennial Commission to leave a lasting legacy of its successful and memorable celebration of Chillicothe’s remarkable history of two hundred years. Annually two (2) $1,000 college scholarships are awarded to qualified students graduating seniors from Chillicothe High School as funds are available.
Guidelines for Application
- Nominee must be in the top 25% of his/her class.
- Nominees must be graduates of the Chillicothe High School.
- Nominee must provide proof of acceptance by the college, trade, or technical school of his/her choice.
- Nominee must be accompanied with official high school transcripts and ACT, or equivalent, scores.
- Scholarship funds are to be used for general expenses: Tuition, room/board, and books.
- Scholarship payment will be made only to the designated educational institution.
- Should a student withdraw before completing his/her first year, the remaining funds, in accordance with the policy of the institution, shall be returned to the fund.
Scholarships Available for Adena High School Graduates
MZT Spirit Scholarship for Adena High School Graduates
The MZT Spirit Scholarship Fund for Adena High School Graduates is established by the friends and loved ones of Marsha Zurmehly Tootle. She was an incredible person that inspired the Class of 1975 to create a legacy to honor her. She had such SPIRIT and loved the Adena High School and was proud to be a Warrior! Scholarships in Marsha’s memory will be awarded to Adena High School graduates as funds are available.
Guidelines for Application
- Nominee must be a graduate of Adena High School, Frankfort, Ohio.
- Nominee must have not less than a 2.5 Grade Point Average (2.5 GPA on a 4.0 grading scale).
- Nominee must complete an application.
- Nominee must complete an educational budget, as financial need will be a consideration.

Chillicothe-Ross Adena Scholarship Fund
One (1) $500 college scholarship is awarded annually to a qualified senior student graduating from Adena High School.
Guidelines for Application
- Nominee must be a graduate of Adena High School, Frankfort, OH.
- Nominee must have not less than a 2.5 Grade Point Average (2.5 GPA on a 4.0 grading scale).
- Nominee must fill out an application.

Adena High School Alumni Association Scholarship Fund
The Adena High School Alumni Association Scholarship was established by the Adena High School Alumni Association to assist Adena High School graduates with post-secondary education costs in the second term of their freshman year.
Guidelines for Application
- Nominee must be a graduate of Adena High School, Frankfort, Ohio.
- Nominee must have not less than a 2.5 Grade Point Average (2.5 GPA on a 4.0 grading scale.)
- Nominees must fill out an application and submit a current headshot photo.
- Nominees must fill out an educational budget as financial need will be a consideration,
- Nominee must provide a self expression synopsis (250 words or more) describing their educational goals and career plans.
- Nominee shall provide transcripts from Adena High School.
- Nominee shall provide two recommendations from teachers, coaches, advisors or other community leaders.
- This is a second semester scholarship. Recipient must submit first semester grades and verify enrollment before the scholarship will be disbursed to the school.

Huntington High School General Scholarship Fund

Guidelines for Application
- Nominees must be a graduating senior of Huntington High School
- Nominees must have a 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 grading scale).
- Nominee must complete an application.
- Nominee must complete an educational budget as financial need will be a consideration.
- Nominee must provide an essay to the essay prompt below.
- Application must be accompanied by official high school transcripts and ACT or equivalent scores.
- Nominee must provide proof of acceptance by the college, trade school, or technical school of his/her choice.
- Nominee must provide two recommendations from teachers, coaches, advisors or other community leaders.
- Scholarship funds may be used at any accredited college or trade school for tuition and/or books.
- Scholarship payment will be made only to the designated educational institution.

Scholarships Available for Paint Valley High School Graduates
Roger and Emily Benner Fund for Paint Valley Graduates
In lasting memory of their parents, the daughters of Roger and Emily Benner have established annual scholarships to qualified graduates of Paint Valley High School, Bainbridge, Ohio.
Guidelines for Application
- Nominee must be a graduate of Paint Valley High School, Bainbridge, Ohio.
- Nominee must have not less than a “B” average (3.0 on a 4.0 grading scale.)
- Nominee must provide proof of acceptance by the college, trade, or technical school of his/her choice.
- Applications must be accompanied with official high school transcripts and ACT, or equivalent, scores.
- Scholarship funds are to be used for general expenses: Tuition, room/board, and books.

Norman R. Cutright Scholarship for Paint Valley Graduates
In lasting memory of Norman R Cutright, family and friends have established an annual one-time scholarship to qualified graduates of Paint Valley High School, Bainbridge, Ohio.
Guidelines for Application
- Nominee must be a graduate of Paint Valley High School, Bainbridge, Ohio.
- Nominee must have not less than a 2.5 Grade Point Average (2.5 GPA on a 4.0 grading scale.)

Lewis D and Misty T Ewry and Friends Scholarship Fund
Established to annually assist a graduating senior of Paint Valley Local Schools pursuing a college degree.
Guidelines for Application
- Nominee must be a graduate of Paint Valley High School, Bainbridge, OH.
- Nominee must fill out an application.
- Preference will be given to nominees pursuing degrees in the field of education.
- Nominee must have not less than a 3.0 Grade Point Average (3.0GPA on a 4.0 grading scale).
- Nominee must fill out an educational budget as financial need will be a consideration.
- Nominee shall provide high school transcripts.
- Nominee must provide a self-expression synopsis (250 words or more) describing their educational goals and desire for a career in education (or other field).
- Nominee shall provide two recommendations from teachers, coaches, advisors, or other community leaders.
- Nominee must provide an information sheet that should include activities in which the nominee has engaged in during high school years (class officer, music organizations, athletics, publications, etc.) and organized out-of-school activities (4-H Club, scouting, church organizations, etc.).

Amelia Benner Scholarship Fund for Paint Valley Graduates
Established to annually assist graduates of Paint Valley Local Schools pursuing a four-year college degree.

Scholarships Available for Zane Trace High School Graduates
Zane Trace Pete Dunkle Scholarship Fund
The Zane Trace Pete Dunkle Memorial Scholarship is dedicated to the legacy of a true ZT Pioneer. Mr. Pete Dunkle started his teaching and coaching career at Paint Valley, moved to Finley, OH to Arlington High School and then found his home at Zane Trace Local School District. Pete was a high school principal and then superintendent where he finished his 23 years at Zane Trace, retiring in 1996. Pete continued his service to the ZT community as a full-time volunteer in the booster club, working countless bingo nights and operating the ZT PTO sausage booth at the Ross Co. Fair and Easy Rider Rodeo for more than three decades.
His unwavering loyalty and generosity to the Zane Trace community positively and profoundly impacted generations of Pioneers. The lessons learned from his deeds will carry on through the hard work and dedication of his family, friends, former students, and community as they continue his legacy and create their own. This scholarship is to honor Pete’s tenacious spirit and all of the good that it brought to Pioneer Nation and everyone who crossed his path. “We live in deeds, not years.”

Terry Frey Scholarship Fund
The Frey family, Terry and Dolores Frey, Terry Frey Jr and Scott Frey establish the Terry Frey Scholarship fund to provide scholarships to Zane Trace Graduates.

- Nominee must be a graduate of Zane Trace High School, Kingston, Ohio.
- Preference will be given, but not limited to eligible applicants who will be entering a career in agriculture.
- Nominees must fill out an application.

- Nominee must be a graduating senior of Zane Trace High School, Chillicothe, Ohio or be a Zane Trace graduating senior at the Pickaway Ross Career and Technology Center.
- Preference will be given, but not limited to eligible applicants who will be entering a career in education or skilled trades.

Roy A. Congrove Memorial Fund
Honoring the memory of Mr. Roy A. Congrove, a basketball coach and mentor to Zane Trace High School students, annually scholarships are awarded to Zane Trace graduates.

- Nominee must be a graduate of Zane Trace High School, Chillicothe, Ohio.
- Nominee must provide a one page autobiography (250 words or more) describing themselves, interests, hobbies, and goals.
- Nominee must provide an information sheet that should include activities in which the nominee has engaged in during high school years (class officer, music organizations, athletics, publications, etc.) and organized out-of-school activities (4-H Club, scouting, church organizations, etc.). Cara Tener Tague Scholarship Fund
The family of Cara Tener Tague establishes this scholarship fund to provide an annual scholarship for Zane Trace graduates

- Nominee must be a graduate of Zane Trace High School, Chillicothe, Ohio.
- Preference will be given, but not limited to eligible applicants who have participated on the Zane Trace Swim Team.
- Nominees must fill out an application.
- Nominee must have not less than a 3.0 Grade Point Average (3.0 GPA on a 4.0 grading scale.)
- Nominees must fill out an educational budget as financial need will be a consideration.

Kim Knapp Morton Scholarship Fund
Kim was a 1971 graduate of Zane Trace High School. She completed her associate and bachelor degrees at Hocking College and OHIO University, respectively, with a focus on social work and criminal justice. A life cook and Baker, she owned and operated her business, Kim’s Catering, from 1985 until 2017.
In the spirit of Kim’s generosity throughout the years, this endowment is being established by her sons to continue her legacy and to support future generations within her community as they spread love, kindness, and pursue their own dreams.

Zane Trace First Class Scholarship
Celebrating the First Class of Zane Trace Hige School, the class of 1966 awards an annual scholarship. Nominees must have a 2.5 grade point average and be current graduates of Zane Trace High School.

- Nominee must be a graduate of Zane Trace High School, Chillicothe, Ohio.
- Nominee must have not less than a 2.5 Grade Point Average (2.5 GPA on a 4.0 grading scale).
- Nominee must provide a one page autobiography (250 words or more) describing yourself and your interests, hobbies, and goals as well as your school, community and church involvement.
- Nominee must fill out an application.
- Nominee must fill out an educational budget as financial need will be a consideration.
- Nominee must provide acceptance letter from the university, college or trade school you will be attending in the fall.

The Brent Davis Scholarship Fund was created in Brent’s memory by his family and friends.

The Judge Thomas Bunch Scholarship Fund was established by his family in his memory.

- Nominee must be a graduate of a Unioto High School, Chillicothe, Ohio.
- Nominee must fill out an application.
- Nominee must have not less than a 3.0 Grade Point Average (3.0 GPA on a 4.0 grading scale.)

James Dylen Rowen aka Bear #73 Scholarship
The James Dylen Rowen aka Bear #73 Scholarship Fund was established by his family in his memory. James was a high school senior when God took him home. James attended Unioto beginning in first grade and played football 3rd through 11th grade. James loved his coaches, teachers and friends. This scholarship is to honor the Rowens’ beloved son, Jamiebear, and help graduates of Unioto High School. James was passionate about classic cars and restoring his 1969 Cadillac, playing football, hanging out with his friends and helping people.

Educators Pursuing Excellence Scholarship Award for the Union Scioto Public School District
Established by the school district’s Class of 1971 and is an annual, one-time, non-renewable award up to $1,000 recognizing a deserving elementary, middle school or high school classroom educator or guidance counselor demonstrating a consistent record of educational excellence, community service and serves as a role model for the district’s students and community.
A currently serving classroom educator or guidance counselor may self-apply for the annual award following the application guidelines listed below. Additionally, a second party may nominate a currently serving educator or guidance counselor for an annual award.
Guidelines for Application
- Nominee must be a currently serving elementary, middle school or high school classroom educator or guidance counselor within the Union Scioto School District.
- Nominee must complete an application within the guidelines outlined in the application or nomination process.
- Nominees must be current employees in good standing as verified by the school district superintendent.
- Nominees must not have a written record of disciplinary action within the past five years as verified and documented by the school district administration.
- Nominees will provide a written self-expression synopsis (500 words or more) describing their contributions to the school’s educational and community missions as well as their professional, educational and personal goals and how the scholarship award will be used to support those goals.
- Nominee must provide three written recommendations from either a superintendent or principal, fellow educator, and a community leader.
- Scholarship funds may be used towards an approved personal or professional course of study at an accredited college for tuition and/or course materials as well as relevant workshops, as approved by the district superintendent that enhances the nominee’s personal or professional development.
- Scholarship payment will be made only to the designated educational institution.
- Any unused funds will be returned to the Fund. Should an awardee not use the full scholarship award within one year of the award without prior approval from the fund’s board, any remaining funds, in accordance with the scholarship’s by-laws shall be returned to the Fund.

The Ed Umsted Memorial Scholarship was created by the friends and family of Ed Umsted to create a lasting legacy to his memory.

- Nominee must be a graduate of Zane Trace High School, Chillicothe, Ohio; Unioto High School, Chillicothe, Ohio; Teays Valley High School, Ashville, Ohio; Circleville High School, Circleville, Ohio; Crossroads Christian Academy, Circleville, Ohio; New Hope Christian Academy, Circleville, Ohio; Logan Elm High School, Circleville, Ohio; or Westfall High School, Williamsport, Ohio or homeschooled in Ross to Pickaway Counties.

Kelly Downs Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Kelly Downs Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by Kelly’s family and friends to leave a lasting legacy in her name. Annually, as funds are available, a $500 scholarship will be awarded to a qualified senior student graduating from Southeastern High School.

Jeremy W Henry Memorial Scholarship Fund
A 1996 graduate from Piketon High School, Jeremy was involved in many extracurricular activities including football and 4H. Jeremy was aware of how participating in extracurricular activities could teach many life lessons and as a peewee level coach he tried to instill these lessons in each young athlete.

Terry Frey Scholarship Fund
The Frey family, Terry and Dolores Frey, Terry Frey Jr and Scott Frey establish the Terry Frey Scholarship fund to provide scholarships to graduates of the Pickaway Ross Career and Technology center who have agriculture experience (i.e. 4H, FFA) or entering an agriculture career.
Guidelines for Application
- Nominee must be a graduate of the Pickaway Ross Career and Technology center.
- Preference will be given, but not limited to eligible applicants who will be entering a career in agriculture.
